Tolerance: My History with Bert
This could be my most famous image, Bert (from Sesame Street) and the Rabbi together entitled "Tolerance". Throughout the 1990's when I was living in Washington, D.C. selling at Eastern Market every weekend, Bert was my muse and I painted his forehead constantly and pretty much sold everyone. I stopped painting Bert in 1998 because I didn't want to be "The Bert Guy" anymore. I was moving to New York City and I wanted to start a clean slate. After all, he wasn't my image. But the story of our breakup get a lot of press in The Washington Post, The Washington Times, and The City Paper and ironically I became even more known as "The Bert Guy".
I have watched capitalism take over and I have seen my Bert portraits go up in value 4, 5, even 10 times the amount of my original prices. The original woodcut carving was done in 1995 and these "Tolerance" woodcuts are the only Berts I still make. They still sell for $175 each and each print is an original because they're individually painted.

Hand Colored Silkscreen Prints
Silkscreen prints are individually silkscreened on paper then afterwards I hand paint each one differently. This makes each one an original piece. They are priced between $100-$150.
